One of BWI’s foundational tasks is to create an annotated babywearing bibliography, or a list of babywearing research and resource material with short reviews to explain the nature of the article (or other type of resource) and how it applies to babywearing. The bibliography is major step toward BWI’s becoming an information clearinghouse for child health professionals, researchers, and caregivers interested in learning. It is also a foundational step for our professional outreach program.

The six-member task force is headed by Bridget Hahm of Tampa, Florida. Ms. Hahm is a healthcare research study project manager by vocation and has extensive experience with literature reviews, evaluating the credibility of resources. She has experience specifically with creating annotated bibliographies as well. Other task force members contribute such credentials and experience as a master’s degree in information science, experience in literature reviews, abstracting, indexing, bibliometrics (citation analysis and building thesauri), legal research, and general research. Some task force members have already compiled babywearing bibliographies for their University theses.

The task force expects to complete its work in the first quarter of 2008. After review by the board of directors, it will be available through the BWI website.

<del></del>As part of its web content enhancement, BWI would like to showcase the stories of real-life parents and caregivers … like YOU! Our hope is that people who come to our website will be able to recognize themselves when they read about the struggles and joys that every caregiver faces. With your help, we’d like to show the world how useful, beneficial and magical babywearing can be! We would welcome a short article or story about you and your babywearing experience - we’d like to hear from parents of newborns, toddlers, multiples, Moms, Dads and everything in between! Participating in this fundraiser will cost you nothing but a minute of your time. Please register with iGive to support Babywearing International. The iGive program is FREE to you, and whenever you make an internet purchase through iGive, the participating store will donate a percentage of your purchase to Babywearing International. And, if you make a purchase within 45 days of registering, iGive will donate an extra $5 to BWI. That can add up quickly!

Many, many internet stores participate in iGive, including eBay, Land’s End, JC Penney, Macy’s, Nordstrom, and many many more. Remodeling? American Wallpaper and Home Depot participate, among others.

If you download the iGive Shopping Window, you don’t even have to go to the iGive site to start shopping … if you go directly to a participating store’s website, the iGive Shopping Window will pop up and take you through iGive so that a portion of your purchase will be donated to Babywearing International.

You can help Babywearing International promote babywearing efficiently and on a large scale! Here’s our request:

1. Register with iGive. Consider downloading the iGive Shopping Window so you never miss a donation opportunity … with the Shopping Window, anytime you make a purchase from a participating store, it will result in a donation. Just go to our “joinlink” to register: http://www.iGive.com/babywearinginternational

2. Add the BWI iGive joinlink to your email and forum signatures.

3. Ask your friends and relatives to register with iGive to support BWI. Remember, it just takes a minute, is no extra cost to them, and, if they download the shopping window, they don’t even have to remember to go to the iGive site to start shopping. And iGive will donate an extra $5 to BWI when they make their very first qualifying purchase.

4. If you blog, ask your readers to join us in this fundraising effort.

5. Ask your friends, relatives, and readers to pass on the message to their friends, relatives, and readers. Remember that $5 donation with the very first purchase? Let’s get those to add up!

This is important … insurance and recognition of tax-exempt status don’t grow on trees, and neither do brochures, informational videos promoting babywearing, group leader training materials and handbooks, technological solutions for managing babywearing groups, or many of the other things that will help Babywearing International realize its goals. This iGive campaign is easy and painless … please give it some of your time on behalf of Babywearing International.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Babywearing Bibliography Task Force

We need volunteers to serve on a Babywearing Bibliography Task Force. The task force will compile an annotated babywearing bibliography. In other words, the task force will locate sources of information about babywearing, list those sources in a standard citation form, and include a short annotation about how each source relates to babywearing and why someone might find it interesting. The annotated bibliography should have hyperlinks to sources available on the internet. We will post the bibliography on our website so that BWI will be a resource for researchers and other professionals who are looking for evidence-based information about babywearing. Please email for more information.

Web Content Committee

Babywearing International is seeking volunteers to serve on its Web Content Committee. Our primary focus will be compiling text for the website (such as a Babywearing FAQ, and a Definitions Page), as well as advising on the overall look and feel of the BWI website. We are looking for creative-minded people who have excellent written communication skills, and who want to help play an important advisory role in the development of BWI’s web presence. If you or someone you know has experience in copywriting, freelance writing, or if you have ideas about how to enhance the content of BWI’s website, then we invite you to consider joining the Web Content Committee. Technical skills are not necessary, but may be useful to the committee in the future. Please email for more information

External Vision Statement:

We envision a world in which babywearing is a natural part of child-rearing.

Internal Vision Statement:

Babywearing International Inc. will serve as a central organization through which babywearing educators and advocates will collaborate to share resources and coordinate activities to promote babywearing. Peer educators will find that Babywearing International’s group leader development materials help them maximize their ability to teach babywearing. Members will use Babywearing International as a resource to obtain easily understood information about babywearing practices and benefits. Through Babywearing International’s professional outreach programs, members of the medical community, birth professionals, and child care providers will understand how and why babywearing is a powerfully beneficial technique for parents and caregivers, and they will refer their clients to Babywearing International and its affiliated groups. Babywearing International’s research as well as its position statements concerning the benefits of babywearing will be reported in media around the world.
