Today we turn to a nomination from Tonia Eden Mayton. Tonia says, “Crystal is our Birmingham chapter Vice President and does all the things. She is head of education and heads up all training for our Volunteer Babywearing Educators in Training (VBEiTs), does Babywearing 101 for our chapter meetings, and is always posting new videos on latest baby wearing practices. She is fervently working on spreadsheets and filling out forms and Google docs for our chapter, on top of being a mom to a 5 year old and 3 year old twins! Somehow she manages to get everything done, and with a smile!”
Crystal Knezek is an Advanced Babywearing Educator with BWI of Birmingham, which happens to be one of the oldest chapters in the organization! She is the Vice Chair and trains new VBEs and volunteers, trains and places leadership volunteers, helps to oversee community events, does the strategic planning, and helps with goal setting for her chapter.
Crystal’s babywearing journey started in 2009, when her daughter was born almost two months premature. Her baby needed her to help regulate her body temperature and Crystal needed to eat! Babywearing helped keep her baby warm and allowed them to bond.
Two years later, Crystal was blessed with twins and wearing became not a luxury, but a way of life. Soon after her twins were born, Crystal saw a mom at the store struggling to manage her three babies, and it was then that she realized that she had a skill to share with others! She went to her chapter and asked to become a VBE.
Crystal really enjoys being a small part of new parents’ babywearing journeys and empowering them to find ways to meet the needs of their little ones. Crystal truly believe the heart of her chapter is the leadership team. She thinks their skills and abilities compliment each other extremely well. They have a willingness to be consciously inclusive and everyone diligently strives to provide an environment where all people feel welcome.
