Babywearing International recently welcomed BWI of Greenville, North Carolina into the fold. Although they are called BWI of Greenville, they serve most of eastern North Carolina, which is largely populated by military families. Prior to their affiliation in June, they were known as Eastern NC Babywearers, started by Jackie Ramberg, a military wife and mom of three. Last year, Jackie asked Jennie Sanderson to help with the group. They’d been wanting to pursue affiliation for some time but didn’t have extra help to do so. Their group had grown very fast in the past few months, however, and they decided it was time. They added a few extra volunteers and went for it.
To celebrate their affiliation, the new chapter had a picnic at a nature center in Kinston, North Carolina. It was a very hot day but the turn out was great with kids playing in the park and looking at animals. They plan to make this an annual event to celebrate their affiliation anniversary.
BWI of Greenville currently hosts three meetings a month: one each in Greenville, Goldsboro, and New Bern. Their meetings usually occur on weekdays, but they offer a Saturday meeting at each location and have weekend play dates.
Chapter president Jennie Sanderson says, “We love new folks! Don’t ever be intimidated by our group, we are very laid back, and love to have fun. A lot of our caregivers have become very close friends within our group!”
In the future, they hope to offer an advanced back wrapping and back carry class for members only and to conduct some fundraisers. They are also looking into more outreach opportunities in their community.
